PRE-OPERATIVE INSTRUCTIONS
Fasting:
No food, lollies, chewing gum for 6 hours prior to your procedure. If your procedure is in the morning, this means fast from midnight, the night before. You may continue to drink sips of water (NOT TEA/COFFEE/SOFT DRINKS) until 2 hours before coming in for your procedure.
Smoking/alcohol:
Stop smoking for at least 24 hours prior to your procedure.
Do not consume alcohol on the day of your procedure.
Medications:
Continue your regular medications as usual.
Herbal preparations may interact with your anaesthetic - avoid for 7 days prior.
If you take blood thinning medications (eg: warfarin, aspirin, plavix, fish oil), discuss whether you need to stop these with the doctor performing your procedure.
If you are DIABETIC, do not take your usual diabetic tablets on the day of your procedure. If you take insulin, please inform my rooms and I will contact you to discuss what to do. If you take a "gliflozin" type diabetes medicine (eg: Jardiance, Glyxambi, Forxiga, Xigduo, Steglatro), this will need to be stopped 72 hours prior to surgery.
ON THE DAY OF YOUR PROCEDURE
I will have a consultation with you prior to your anaesthetic, to discuss your medical and anaesthetic history in more detail and examine you.
AFTER YOUR PROCEDURE:
I am involved in your post operative care, keeping you comfortable and reducing nausea.
Do not drive, sign documents, work, or perform responsible duties until the following day.
Avoid alcohol until the following day. A responsible adult should be present with you overnight.
In case of an urgent medical problem, please go to your closest emergency department or call 000.
